Phoenix, AZ (June 29, 2010) - A nationally acclaimed initiative for community service will be coming to the “Valley of the Sun” and other cities throughout the state when the Season of Service launches this fall. Part of Arizona CityFest with Luis Palau, the campaign will initiate service projects – and support existing programs – that address the pressing needs of hunger, homelessness, health care, education, family well-being, and neighborhood revitalization.
Local leaders including Marketplace One CEO Bret Edson, NFL quarterback Kurt Warner with his wife Brenda, and businessman Jerry Colangelo will be joining forces with the Oregon-based Luis Palau Association to coordinate months of public service activity culminating in a free weekend festival celebration March 19 and 20 at Tempe Town Lake.
Similar CityFest events are made free from the support of local churches, individuals and businesses, and have drawn crowds of 100,000 and more from Portland, Oregon to south Florida. The festivals feature national recording acts, extreme sports demonstrations, family play zones, and a message of inspiration and hope from Christian communicator and author Luis Palau.
Festival director Levi Park has worked with Palau festivals for the past decade.
“We’ve seen a sustainability of service that continues long after a Palau festival,” says Park.
“With partnerships that involve the business, civic and faith communities, cities like Portland
and Little Rock are continuing – even expanding – on the projects begun through the Season of Service.”
Churches and agencies with existing projects, as well as groups and individuals interested in serving on a community project, are urged to visit the Season of Service link at www.arizonacityfest.com. The CityFest offices can be reached at 602-385-0766.
